SS Number

I have randomly sold a few items (less than 10) on ebay over many years, and I recently sold a $25 item. ebay is not paying me because I need to give them a SS number and I would rather not give them that number. I was not informed when I listed the item that this was a new requirement to be paid, I want the money owed me and I will never sell again on ebay. Is there any way to file a complaint with a real person?

Since eBay has been acting as the payment processor for the last few years they must follow Federal Banking regulations and IRS requirements for obtaining your SSN in order for eBay to pay you.  Anywhere you go will have the same requirement unless somehow you are being paid directly by the buyer by cash or check.

So Jacbar, I do not believe a $25 sale, once every couple of  years, needs to be reported to the IRS. So what happens if I never give ebay my SS number, they keep my money? Total **bleep**!!! I am not making money as a business on ebay, just selling a something now and then that I believe would get more views than selling it on Craigs List. Every time I do list something on ebay, I swear it will be my last when I see the exorbitant fees they charge! NOT HAPPY they are keeping my $!!!

Eventually (in 6+ months) the funds will be released to your state’s unclaimed funds department.  But . . . most states will require you to give your ssn to them to prove your identity in order to claim the funds.  So, you’re going to have to give it to someone, at some point, if you want to claim the funds.

glorybells, thanks for that information. Is there any way to contact ebay directly? Years ago they had a concierge service that was extremely helpful, is that all gone now? What a PIA this has turned into, no warning my SS# was required when I posted this item for sale, now I don't get paid...DONE SELLING on ebay!
