A buyer has requested a return of a sealed trading card, claiming that it is fake and not as described. I immediately contacted the buyer via eBay message, and after I explained that it was authentic, the buyer apologized and said he had just realized. I asked the buyer if he could cancel this return request since I thought the issue was resolved, and the response I got was "Are you able to reject it?"
The buyer sent me a photo of the item, and it was already completely opened, so I can't resell it. It would be more profitable to not accept returns and just refund the money, but I didn't want to give the item to a scammer, so I accepted the return. Since I set it not to accept returns, I probably won't receive compensation from eBay.
It's obvious that the item will be returned damaged, and I'm really upset that the seller can't refuse to refund even though the buyer admitted it was his mistake. After the item is returned I will report the buyer for misuse of the return, but I don't think that will hurt them much.
Are there any other ways I can take?
