Replacing item description with more effective version

I completed my revision, but then found I could not replace the existing version. Just tacking the revised version onto the previous one will render the entire description absurdly repetitious—less effective than the original, in fact. Is there some way of just replacing the original with the revision?

You cannot edit a description if an item has bids.

In some cases you can add to the description; edit your additions so they are not repetitive.

Too bad. My revision would have pumped up the enthusiasm level, I think. Oh, well, thanks for responding, my friend.

You are welcome. Good luck with your listing!

eBay limits editing of listings to prevent unscrupulous sellers from changing the listing materially after already receiving bids, which could potentially cause all sorts of problems if the changes were drastic enough. At one point buyers could withdraw bids, citing that "the seller changed the listing" as the reason. eBay decided it made more sense to limit item description changes and also limit bid withdrawals rather than to allow both unchecked.
