Removing false negative feedback?

Had buyer leave me my first negative feedback. Item was late due to post office delays and rather then contacting me to let me know he left me a negative feedback. Since ebay states they will remove negative feedback out of your control such as postal delays I contacted ebay and requested to remove the feedback which for some reason they denied? Why, would this claim get denied? The buyer did eventually receive his item after it took a 2 week trip all over the country before getting to him. When he received it he thanked me for contacting the post office every day and tracking down his item He said he would revise the feedback but never did and now the revision request is expired. Am I stuck with this negative feedback stating that buyer hasn't received the item when in fact he has?
