A customer ordered a book and paid. I offer free shipping. I took it to the post office this morning. When I got back, I got an email saying that the book was the right author, wrong book, so they cancelled. I returned to the post office and got the book back, it never left the building. At home I began the cancelling/refunding process, and I wondered if I will also get my shipping fee back, as it never went anywhere. I haven't done this before. Thanks.

Cancelling the sale doesn't cancel the shipping label, as that is the USPS and the sale is through eBay. Go to your shipping labels page https://www.ebay.com/ship/labels/seller-hub, find the transaction, and click on void the label under actions. You will receive an email that a void was requested, but you won't get notice when the fee is refunded. You will find this in your payouts as a shipping label credit. It usually take a few weeks, but the USPS is very good about refunding and I have never had a problem in 10 years.

If the shipping label was scanned in, it was used and they might not issue a refund.

OH--good point @kensgiftshop . Wonder if they got a scan?

Oh thanks for telling me that. I wasn't sure what to do. The package was scanned but I went back and retrieved it because it wasn't sent. I still have the package and the receipt so they may do that for me if I go back. Thanks.

All you can is ask them about it and see what they say.
I know once it's been used, they won't refund, but since it never went anywhere, they might?

If you got a scan, you cannot get a refund through shipping labels because it has been used. You might be out of luck on this one. Hope it wasn't too much.
