Purchased by accident and need to cancel.

I went to cancel transaction and it said too late and that I needed to contact seller and work it out.  I explained to seller my mistake and they were not sure how to cancel it on their end.  Anyone know how the seller can cancel a transaction.  The item was not paid for and was not shipped.
