Possible scam?

Seller has an excavator listed for 4000.  It claimed to have the ebay money back guarantee even finance options but this price seems awfully cheap. How do I know if it's a scam and is there anything I can do to protect myself

Is item on ebay Motors?  If not and is on Facebook or some other site it is a SCAM and ebay has nothing to do with it.

The excavators for sale on eBay start around $25K, so it's not on eBay.

The lower priced equipment sells quickly on eBay, but still nothing in running condition has been sold any lower lower than about $10K.

These are red flags for a SCAM:

• Vehicle found on some other website.
• The vehicle can not be found on https://ebay.com/motors
• Price is too good to be true.
• There is urgency due to death, divorce, transfer.
• Vehicle is not available for inspection.
• False claims that eBay will provide any of these non-existent services:
  • broker the sale.
  • require prepaid cards as payment.
  • escrow/hold the payment.
  • warehouse the vehicle.
  • ship the vehicle.
  • offer a free inspection period.
  • provide free delivery or returns.

Please report scams to the site where you found the scam. And if you received an email, please forward the email as an attachment (so that the email headers are maintained) to car@ebay.com to add to their ongoing investigations.

i will say it appears to be on ebay but i did find it on a google search and it does seem to search ebay if i change my item search in the tool bar but it does seem kind of crazy to sell this kind of equipment closed cab for 5k looks to be brand new if i can figure it out ill post screen shot

If there is an eBay item number, I can find it on eBay: 

ebay.com/itm/000000000000 

If it is a scam page, the "other" links on the page may lead to eBay, whereas the scam page itself will not be on eBay.

Examine the page address closely. Is it actually on a page that starts with www.ebay.com/itm/ ?

If you search on ebay.com, can you find the listing?

There are fake sites that copy eBay pages and have similar looking page addresses, but if you look closely they are not formatted correctly. You may see links like this www-ebay-com.13243565768.com/....
