Paying for auctions.

I have been confused on this subject for a while now and thought I would try to get more clarity. Sometimes my method of payment is a link to my bank and sometimes if I qualify, I pay with Paypal Credit to take advantage of the no interest offer for six months or more. I see these auctions where we must declare the method of payment before bidding instead of just choosing an option at check out. The issue I have is that you have to change the option you choose (if you want to) before the auctions end. Many times I don't know that until the end results. But, whatever method I declare, I am billed right away with that method. I don't necessarily want to pay by the choice I made whether it is one or the other. Having the ability to choose at check out allows me to bid say on higher priced items or multiple items. I am not sure why Ebay has allowed this but it could be because of non paying bidders. I have been an Ebay over 20 years and have no payment issues. It seems like a punishment. Does anyone have any recommendations for me? Thank you.

Re: Paying for auctions.

Hi @impactmac

eBay added the Auto-pay feature to ALL Selling accounts and many Sellers don't know it is there or that when eBay adds it the default setting is ON for the Best offer flow AND bidding on Auctions.   Sellers have to turn it OFF which would give you the flexibility to select your payment method AFTER the auction ends if you win.

The first time it showed up on my account I turned it OFF ... then a week later, eBay turned it back ON ... so I turned it OFF again and so far it has stayed OFF, meaning my customers do NOT have to select a payment method before they bid.

You can always message a Seller and ask if they know it is on and would the consider turning it off?

My understanding is that you have one hour after an auction ends to change the Auto-pay method you selected before placing a bid.

For the other payment options like the PayPal credit feature that is not a selection that Sellers make ... I know I have NEVER seen that as a payment method listed on my items.

Re: Paying for auctions.

You have one hour to checkout manually after auction end where you can use the full array of accepted payment methods, including PayPal Credit, before the one that you had to use to place the bid is charged (there will be a pre-authorization hold showing as "Pending" on the latter for a few days).
