I sell coins. Mainly rolls of mixed wheat pennies/silver foreign & domestic coins of all flavors, ie: mixed rolls.
Buyer purchases 2 rolls from me on 12/7/24. Receives them on 12/14/24. Messages me on 12/28/24 and states that, after opening both rolls they are not satisfied with coins but decided to forgo leaving a negative fb with photos and contacting eBay (?) In favor of contacting me first (which I wholeheartedly appreciate). I replied immediately with an apology and offer to refund 100% of their expenses and send a return label. Buyer replied with another offer which was: They ship back the coins they don't want, keeps the rest, and I refund the difference, whatever buyer chooses I suppose. Or face a negative fb which would blemish my 100% record, as well as posting pics of coins in the worst unflattering light possible along with a damaging comment to go with it all.
Now the buyer has not come right out and say that's what they are going to do, but they did insinuate it so I knew what to expect. This buyer has only a few dozen transactions on this very new account but by the way they are operating tells me this is most likely a satellite account , just my interpretation based on the fact they know how to phrase their intentions without violating any rules. My instinct tells me not to allow it to happen, thus making it harder the next time they try it, if in fact it is what it looks like but maybe I'm just too careful.
The benefit of doubt, rationale and expedition tell me to refund the buyer, allow them to keep the items then never look back. It's about $150 after fees etc.
I'm just curious what other sellers might do in a situation like this.
* When you check my account it will be a transaction approximately 3 wks ago. Also, you'll maybe understand my hesitancy to leap to one choice or the other once you check my feedbacks. Not sure if you can see my returns but I'm pretty sure there are none for this classification. Hopefully providing understanding for my need to plow ahead slowly.
