PLEASE HELP AS A SELLER

please make me understand how I had no seller protection on a item I sold (offering 1 day handling, free shipping, free returns) to a buyer that returned a completely different (not the same) item. I sent pictures as proof of the different wrong item shipped back, the buyer admitted to shipping back the wrong item(in emails), and after getting caught and admitted to shipping back the wrong item, changes his mind to keep the item, emails me and tells me "im sorry for shipping back the wrong item and I have decided to keep the item". buyer also tells me to keep my funds (but they were frozen). After all things when I call to speak to escalations depart and they tell me multiply times and I will get my funds back soon if the buyer does not ship back the correct item, ebay closes the case in his favor.. please make me understand b/c THIS IS NOT SELLER PROTECTION. THE BUYER WANTED TO KEEP THE ITEM AND RELEASE THE FUNDS BACK TO ME.. IM VERY LUCKY HE WANTED TO DO THE RIGHT THING. I have been a great top rated seller on ebay for over 17 years and the way I was treated by ebay reps on this case is disgusting. Even lie to me right over the phone about closing the case in my favor and unfreezing the funds back to me.  I need to take this to the message board and see if any other seller has ever had this happen to them.
