Just asking. When a seller lists an item that states, let's say, $50 or best offer, and it doesn't sell at auction, it seems to me they are saying they are willing to accept the best offer, no matter what it is, and sell it to whomever made the offer. A better wording could be "the most acceptable offer". I wonder if anyone has ever challenged it.

The "Best" in "Best Offer" refers to the BUYER's "Best" that s/he is willing to offer. It does not mean that the seller is under any obligation to take the highest offer (that is an auction, which eBay already has). When eBay first came out with Best Offer it only allowed ONE offer by the buyer and no counteroffers, so it had to be the buyer's "Best".
