I sold a pair of new Beats headphones that have an Apple warranty. The headphone box was never opened but the label had been torn so I taped it. The tape strips could clearly be seen in the photos I posted. On Friday, July 5th I sent the headphones. Early Monday afternoon July 8th I read Ebay's email notifying me the buyer was returning the headphones for a refund. The buyer had already posted negative feedback warning people not to buy from me. Claiming I had sold him used headphones and hadn't sent the warranty. I have been buying and selling on Ebay for over 20 years. That was my first negative feedback, I don't think I ever had a neutral feedback. I had emailed the buyer on July 5 notifying him I would transfer the warranty over after the 30 day return window had closed. That was to prevent someone from using the warranty to get another set of Beats headphones repaired then returning the set they bought from me. Was I wrong to withhold the warranty?
I was expecting to receive the headphones in the condition I had sent them. A fully taped closed, unopened box. The label has been completely removed and there are oil smudges on the headphones. From hair, fingers who knows? I have posted a complaint to Ebay informing them of the condition of the headphones. I now have to list these headphones as, "Used". I have never been in this situation before. What do I do about the refund? Do I refund the full amount? Do I give a partial refund and wait for Ebay's decision? If I do a partial refund how much should I withhold? I appreciate all responses.

You do not have the option to issue less than a full refund. This option is only available when you offer free returns, or if you are top rated with 30 day returns.
The Applecare is tied to your item by the serial #, so the buyer could not use it for a different pair. Still, I would have waited to transfer it until the buyer was happy with the purchase, since it would be hard to get them to transfer it again. It is a delicate balance with no absolutely right answer.

Thank you for your response. I have sold items with transferable warranties before and it was never a problem. Out of my hands now. Buyer put in a "Payment Dispute". I uploaded some photos showing the headphones were used. Thank you again.
