I sold a handbag and it went out on the 12/16 but buyer has not received and started a request for refund. It says it is in transit but running late. I sent tracking and the info on this to buyer. If I refund and the item gets delivered. What happens then. Do i contact buyer and say it shows It was delivered after I gave refund and hope they send it back. This never happened before so just need some advice.
Thank you

Hi @nellduk0
-First, if the Buyer filed a claim through eBay for an item not received you have 4 days to upload the tracking information from the sold file, meaning add the tracking number to the claim.
-If the delivery has NOT happened on Day 4 contact eBay and ask for an extension on the claim, they give up to 10 days. Then wait for the item to be delivered.
-You can also file a Missing Mail piece with USPS, sometimes this helps shake a package loose and get it moving again: USPS.com® - Sign In
You can message the customer and let them know you have initiated that package search with USPS.
-You do NOT refund until the last day of the claim if the item still has not been delivered ... if you get the extension mentioned above you wait until the last day of the claim.
-If in the end the package is NOT delivered within the claim period and you refund the customer and it gets delivered after that you are out the item out the money and at the mercy of the customer on they returning the item or paying oy outside eBay ... some Buyers like when this happens because they get their item for free.
Other than the claim process, eBay is not involved with the shipping end of a transaction ... that is the Seller's responsibility. Messaging the customer and letting them know you are trying to locate the package may go a long way for you ...

This is always a problem. Once you refund the buyer the purchase is closed and cannot be reopened. So you would have to rely on the honesty of the buyer to make payment back to you or to return the item. eBay will not be able to help you.
