Did you mean:

Item condition - open box

I don't agree with eBay's item condition definition for "open box".

The options for item condition are:   Brand New, Open Box, Refurbished, Previously Owned and For Parts/Not Working.

eBay's definition for open box is an item in excellent, new condition. Not sealed.

I have always thought "open box" to mean that the box has been opened and the item was probably removed from the box and sometimes hastily put back into the box. Therefore eBay should add this to the "open box" description:

        * Item may have some small cosmetic blemishes and/or very light scratches from contents being loose in box and rubbing against each other.

         * Item is in New (unused) working condition.

Or something to this effect.

I got a negative feedback from a buyer on a door knob and deadbolt combo. i listed it as open box and sold it for about 25% of its value. Now there are a lot of small parts in these sets and the packaging is paper outside sleeve with a sealed clear plastic inside packaging. Now when these are opened they are usually cut and ripped open. The contents rarely will be put back into the package the way they came. They are hastily shoved back in to the box and a lot of packaging tape is involved.

I would have given the guy a refund or even sent another for free. But he just went and left negative feedback saying the item did not appear "new". The knob and deadbolt were full of dents and scratches.

Nowhere in my listing and description did I say the item was new.

It's eBays dumb definition of "open box" that says the item is new.

Needs to be revised.
