Is this a Scam

Looks like a scam. I just checked this account and it is no longer a register user! So eBay caught this one!

Thought the Community would like to see this.

I received this request from a user claiming to click on my Buy Now button.

This email is in my Message in my eBay account, it is real.

I checked my setup, there is no existing block for new users.

I do have my filter set to ignore locations where I do not ship.

The link she wanted me click on was:.

removed-excluded dot com which included my ebay account.

I did NOT click it. Phishing.

I did a whois and it is a new site out of Arizona.

I'm surprised eBay let someone enter a URL outside of their Domain.

I just re-checked my messages and the offending URL is still there.

I could not send it in this email to forum as eBay caught it and redacted it.

So how did this user (now ex user) bypass eBay?

Here is the message I received:

New message from: laucam94 (1)

hello, I'm reaching out because I've been attempting to purchase for a few minutes now, but I consistently encounter an error when I click the buy now button. I reached out to customer support, and they clarified that the cause of the error is linked to the setup of your account. It appears that you have configured your account in a manner that restricts new users from completing purchases, and I happen to be a new user. As a resolution, they suggested that I pass along this link to you. By doing so, you'll have the ability to enable any other user facing the same issue as me to successfully make a purchase from you, and I'll be able to proceed with my transaction as well.

“Copy the link and then paste it into the address bar of your Web Browser”

(I removed the URL because ebay block me from sending it)

if you can pinpoint the fitting resolution, I'd be highly grateful if you could drop me a message. I'm all set to give it another shot, and your update would mean a lot. thanks for your assistance
- Kimberly

Is this a Scam

There is no restriction that sellers can use to block new users from bidding or buying an item.

As you indicated, that user is no longer registered.

The message appears to be a common scam message designed to get you to click on the removed link and to defraud you directly or else get your eBay credentials and take over your eBay account to use for other scams.

Scammers register new accounts or hijack old ones and send such messages. eBay tries to block messages with such links and close accounts used by scammers, but scammers are persistent and clever, and keep trying new things to get around eBay's blocks and restrictions.
