Is it possible to challenge a shipping cost adjustment?

I recently shipped an item weighing 12 pounds.  Two weeks later I notice that the carrier weighed the item at 30 pounds with a heft surcharge.  Package dimensions were as I had entered when ordering the label.  I took an identical item to the carrier's local store and they weighed the item as being 12 pounds.

How can I recoup the adjustment made by the carrier?

Hi @tho_223344   Many sellers won't use Fed Ex at all anymore.  Fed Ex labels are cost "estimates."  You're not the first seller to receive a rude awakening when Fed Ex calculates the actual cost after the fact.  You use USPS for some things.  With First Class combined into Ground Advantage, you may get better rates that won't change on you even for larger items.  USPS sometimes charges more after the fact if a seller really messes it up.  But you sound pretty conscientious and not like a person who messes things up much.  It's not you or eBay, it's Fed Ex.  Take it up with them if you can.  Good luck!

What the carrier did was to apply dimensional weight.  You can look up that term, but what it means is that they measure the package – length, width, height, girth, etc. – then look up that measurement on a table to see what is the average weight of most packages with those dimensions.  They also weigh it on a scale.  Whichever is more is what they charge you.

Thank you for your response.  If this is the case, why isn't the eBay label priced consistently with the carrier pricing methodology?

I don't know whether it is or not.  Did you use eBay's shipping calculator?  https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/shipping-items/setting-shipping-options/using-shipping-calculator?...

I did and for the carrier used.  As I stated, I had entered accurate dimensions and weight.

Thank for all the feedback.  I discussed the issue with the local Fed Ex Store and they recommended I file a claim.  I have and will share the results upon receipt.
