The item has been shipped internationally.  10 days ago tracking said " Item arrived in country", but no status change since then - is it normal ??

Yes, depending on the country.  Some will show the Delivered status, and some won't.

So there is no way to find out when item has reached local post office ?   Also, I shipped another item via USPS - much later than the one in question, and it has ALREADY arrived to the same address, and I have been kept informed all the way though... Why even bother using eBay international shipping ?!

Why even bother using eBay international shipping ?!

If the buyer files an Item Not Received case, or wants to return the item, ebay will take care of it.  You don't have to do anything as long as tracking shows DELIVERED to the ebay International Shipping hub.
