Information on a canceled auction

I received a message saying an item I put a bid on was canceled and that I can find the reason why it was canceled in bid history. But when I checked it didn’t give a reason. How can I find that information?

Unfortunately eBay stopped giving the reason several years ago.  There is no way to see the reason the seller used to cancel the bid.

What is the "it" that was canceled?  The listing or your bid?  Did you check the entire page of Bid History?  Did you scroll to the bottom of the page?  Post the item number and I'll check it for you, or someone here will.

Information on a canceled auction

If the seller cancelled all bids and ended the listing early without a winner, the reason s/he chose to end early will be at the top left of the listing page for the completed listing.   If you had it in your Watch List (which I highly recommend for any item you will be bidding on) go from there, if you have the item number paste it into this URL in your browser's address bar  ebay.com/itm/############ , if not search for it filtering for "Completed items".   You are likely to be taken to a "similar" active listing but there will be a bar on top that notifies you of that (but easy to miss unless you are looking for it) with a link to the "original listing".

Back when they used to give the reason the seller chose or typed (at first to everyone, then just to the seller and the particular bidder) the reason was usually that the seller cancelled the bids to end the listing (where the seller chose the option in ending the listing to cancel all bids and end without a winner).  Now I think that if you are the bidder you will simply see that the seller cancelled as the reason (even when s/he didn't:  we've had sellers see that as the reason when it was eBay who administratively cancelled the bid, e.g. because the bidder was suspended while the auction was still running).
