I'm a victim of "fake tracking scam" and really need some help

I purchased a rather expensive item and paid for it right away on June 30th. After not receiving any information from seller I reached out and asked when my item is going to be shipped.

I received an eBay order update email on July 4 at 4:38 PM with a tracking number. This number never ever entered the USPS system so as soon as the estimated delivery date passed I opened an item not received claim.

The day after the claim was opened the seller switched out the tracking number to a different one that shows that a package was shipped on July 3, 23 from a completely different state that was marked as the seller's location to my city and zip and was delivered on July 5.

Needless to say that there was no delivery to my address and the package was not addressed to me. The last 4 digit of the delivery zip code does not match mine.

I realize that eBay automatically closes these claims in the seller's favor and I'm unable to get a rep who has the knowledge with straight-out fraud cases.

On the USPS computer they see everything and can track it by GPS and delivery scans.  The Zip Code is not enough as the first 5 digits is the same as your actual address.   You might be able to get this by calling the national USPS number on USPS.com they likely are also aware of this type of scam as UPS and FedEx certainly are.

You need documentation from the carrier that the tracking number was not associated with your address.  Attach this to your appeal of the case.   Ebay is aware of this scam and will refund you.

I'm a bit clueless what type of documentation I need. When I went to the PO they gave me a printout with the destination, it is my city and the 5 digit zip matches but the last 4 is completely different.

You need to ask for it on USPS letterhead that the tracking number does not match your street address.  They do not have to reveal the actual delivery address, which they won't do anyway.

Can they even see the full address of the recipient? The lady I talked to today said that she can only see the City, and 9 digit zip nothing else. I know that somehow you can get GPS coordinates but not sure how.
