I Think I Messed Up Big Time re a New Listing

I just listed a very rare Guitar Tab Songbook that I wanted to have  on Auction and also have the Make an Offer option available to a Buyer.

When I just went to look at my listing I see I have 1 bid but the Make an Offer is not available and it doesn't look like I can Revise my listing now to add it now that a bid has been made.

Can I Just pull the Listing and start over because this was a huge mistake on my part.

Re: I Think I Messed Up Big Time re a New Listing

More bidders does not equal a good price.  More bidders means more lowball bids.  It only takes one bidder and a Starting Price at your true minimum to sell the item for what you are willing to sell it for.   It only takes 2 bidders to raise the price from there, and only 2 bidders' bids count in setting the price.  A bunch of lowball bids don't affect the final outcome when you have 2 bidders willing to bid a good price, and a Reserve could very well scare off one or both of your top bidders, who don't want to play that game.

AND the fee for a Reserve Price quickly eats into your profit margin.  The purpose of a Reserve Price is to prevent the item from selling, and you're charged it whether it sells or not, or whether you have to pull it for some reason, or whether the winner pays or not, and again when you relist with a Reserve.

The best offer option goes away as soon as there is a bid.

You made no mistake except in what you expected to happen.  Best Offer and Buy It Now options on an auction format listing are not intended to last the whole auction.  Best Offer goes away permanently as soon as anyone places a bid on the auction, and Buy It Now usually does so also with a couple of exceptions (if there is still an unmet Reserve or in 4 "Sticky BIN" categories if the "current bid" is less than 50% of the BIN price; and at least in the past could be reinstated by cancelling the bid(s) that "killed" it).

@bria_chres

Instead of using the incredibly expensive Reserve, start your bidding at what your reserve would be. By ending all those listings that had a reserve, you wasted at least $5.00 on each listing, that’s at least $75.00. This is non-refundable.

Re: I Think I Messed Up Big Time re a New Listing

Well I've have now been on hold f/ 1 hr. and 40 min trying to find out why all of my listings have been pulled down f/ the 2nd time in 5 days.

The first time I was told was because I had not linked my bank account info w/ PayPal in keeping w/ the new way eBay pays out your sales.

I added my bank info and received "Thank You" emails and telling me I was ready to relist my items......so I did.

I even requested a call Back from Customer Service to make sure all was OK. They looked at my Profile and said everything looked fine.

Here we are 3 days later and eBay pulled everything again telling me "my account was not up to date".

I lost 1300$ in sales that I was guaranteed sales on the books and it all evaporated.

What other sight can I list my stuff on?

Can you sell your stuff on Amazon ?

.......been on hold now f/ 1 hr. and 49min and 20s

Yes....I'm having second thoughts on the wisdom of using the Reserve option.

But would you not be insane NOT to use a Reserve if you are selling something like a  rare piece of jewelry  f/ $3,000

You could end up having to sell it f/ $300 if that in fact is the High Bid.

That’s why, instead of having a reserve for $3000, you would simply start the bidding at $3000

Not if you  started the bid amount at 3,000 as suggested.

Re: I Think I Messed Up Big Time re a New Listing

But they have another option now call Make an Offer as opposed to Best Offer.

In the Make An Offer option you can go back and forth w/ counter offers

No.  That is Best Offer.   "Make an offer" is simply what is on the button for making a Best Offer.

I get that but what about the bidding process? eBay is always reminding you that "Think about lowering your minimum Bid to attract more bidders".

Re: I Think I Messed Up Big Time re a New Listing

I can see your logic................I have had several Items that had 4-5 bidders and after 3 days the high bid went from .99 to $5.00 and my BIN number was 275$...............what were they thinking?
