How to change my email address

Yes, I know... just select "Account" and "personal Information". There is my current email address... which I must change. I click the EDIT button and put in my new email address of ****@gmail.com. The system then tells me... that email address is already used. Interesting... how can that be?

When I contact ebay by phone 1-866-540-3229 the RUDE voice tells me my account is deactivated. What? I just made a purchase with no problem!

I got the normal email notice etc via an account I have at ****.gmail.com  The reason I got that verification notice from ebay is because the old email address .. has a forward to my new ***.gmail.com address.

So all I want to do is change my email address... but the ebay system... won't let me do that on line. BECAUSE... that email address is already taken. Taken?? by whom??  As far as I know.. I've only had one account at ebay.

There is no way I can find to even email ebay for assistance.

The online assistant.. is useless. Every help link I can find.. simply tells me how to change my email address. There is NO HELP when there is a problem.

I don't think I will be doing business with a company that can't help resolve a problem... that is theirs.

Each eBay account must have a unique email address.

If you are trying to use an email address and eBay tells you the account is already in use, that means there is another eBay account already linked to that email address. Most likely you have at some point, perhaps inadvertently, created a new eBay account linked to that email address, possibly by signing in to eBay using a social media account tied to that email address.

Use a new email address for this eBay account.

eBay no longer has a  phone number you can call for customer support; to contact eBay by phone you must request a call back by going through the Help & Contact page.
