How do I sell Digital Goods - photographic in this case

When a seller uses ebay mail to furnish a photo of goods, ebay does not send a photo that has the actual dimensions of the item but rather a smaller version of the uploaded photograph (jpeg).

I sell custom certificates that have specific dimensions that have to be adhered to since the expectation is that they will be framed.  You cannot by rule contact a buyer except through ebay email so although I want to offer a less expensive version of the product wherein the buyer furnished his or her own paper and prints the certificate using his or her printer.

Does anyone know of a way to force an photo attached to an ebay email to be delivered in the same size as

uploaded?

Thank you.

Hi @kb9at

Here is a link to the eBay Help pages on eBay's policy for electronically delivered items:  Electronically delivered items policy | eBay

If you do not qualify you can't do it.

Re: How do I sell Digital Goods - photographic in this case

Thank you Mr. Lincoln.  Please allow me to amplify a bit on my problem.

I am currently selling the item I have in mindas a physical offering on ebay. I deliver the item as physical goods (to wit, a certificate) that I have created and which I own I.P. rights to   The item that is delivered is designed to fit on 11" x 8.5" card stock of a particular color and paper quality which I provide.

The certificate is customized with information obtained from a US government database which is open to the general public and available without restriction to anyone who has an account with the US government entity (The Federal Communications Commission  aka the FCC).

There cannot be theft of I.P with a digital version because I own the I.P. and therefore am the only person legally able to use it to create finished product.  Nor is the information from the FCC restricted in any way from any public usage as long as the usage does not violate any federal law or FCC rule (which it does not since it is public information and I am using  the information for legal purposes.)

When I try to send the product via ebay email - product which does not violate the stipulations expressed in the ebay policy directive  nor any federal, state or local law - ebay does not transmit the attachment in full size to the ebay email recipient but rather they send a version of the image that is approximately 60% of actual size of the physical item that the buyer receives when I send him a certificate that I print on the paper and ink that I provide at 300 dpi formatted for the 11" x 8.5" card stock

item that I also provide.

That is the full story. As long as I print the product and mail it to a buyer, there is no problem but if I try to provide the same item via a file attachment to an email - to the same person - I can not do so due to an intentional modification of my file by ebay for no defensible reason in this case.

@kb9at

My sincere thanks for that detailed reply ... eBay may not be the best venue for you to sell your certificate.  While I understand the issue I also know eBay will not modify their programming to facilitate your product.

Thank you.

Sometimes the best answer is not necessarily the one you like the best. Instead, one that tells it like it is might be the best even though it isn't what you wanted to hear.

I'm sure you are correct. Having been a programmer during a period when (to quote Billy Joel) I wore a younger man's clothes, server space is gold and network speed is platinum.  Complaining about attempts to manage either for the good of the company is fruitless because that's what a systems engineer is supposed to do and system engineers always report to bean counters ultimately.

@kb9at

My experience in industry saw the rise and strengthening of IT departments to a point where in many cases they actually run the companies.  As it relates to internet sales, the Internet sales entrepreneur doesn't limit themselves to one venue ...
