Filing a claim with USPS

Hello,

Has anyone had trouble filing a claim for a damaged/lost package with USPS Priority Mail Service purchasing a shipping label through eBay?  I’m not getting any help from eBay or USPS in this matter.  eBay says it’s a USPS issue and USPS says it’s an eBay issue.
Any help is much appreciated.  Thanks!

You file the claim with usps here - https://www.usps.com/help/claims.htm

There would only be a claim to file through eBay if you added shipcover insurance.

Re: Filing a claim with USPS

Thanks!  I’ve tried several times filing a claim with USPS but when I put my tracking number in it states “this tracking number is not eligible to file a claim”.  I’ve talked to customer service and went in to my local USPS and they are all saying it’s an eBay issue.  eBay says it’s a USPS issue.

Hi @guild6650   It is a USPS issue.  While it has been a while the last ones we filed were via the USPS website, eBay was not involved.

Re: Filing a claim with USPS

You did double check that the label was for priority mail, right?  Was the package ever scanned?  There has to be at least one scan for usps to acknowledge responsibility for the package.

Maybe they meant that eBay did not send the correct info to them?  I have not seen anyone else post about this issue.

I would try calling the usps help line - you wait quite a while for a human, but it is usually worth it. 1-800-222-1811.

Re: Filing a claim with USPS

Thanks for your help!

I’ll try to escalate it further with USPS.  This is what I get in response to putting my tracking number in.  Up until about 6 months ago, I’ve had no problem filing a claim.  This is my third attempt in 6 months with 3 different items that were damaged.  Also, I’ve only filed 3-4 claims in my 21 years of doing business on eBay.

Re: Filing a claim with USPS

If I typed the # correctly, it shows delivered, so if it was priority you should be able to file a damage claim.

Could you reply back after speaking to usps?  I’d love to hear what they say.

Good luck!

Re: Filing a claim with USPS

Was the package sent using priority mail?  You were asked that question, but never replied.  Only priority mail includes insurance.  None of the other shipping methods include insurance unless you pay for it.

Re: Filing a claim with USPS

Thank you!  Yes, it was shipped Priority mail.  Everyone at USPS is saying that the tracking # is ineligible for a refund even though I have showed them it was shipped Priority mail.  That’s when they say I have to take it up with eBay.

eBay then tells me I have to take it up with USPS.  I’ve even tried setting up a new account with USPS and I get the same outcome.  Very frustrating!

Re: Filing a claim with USPS

devon@ebay   Any guess why usps would tell him to file a claim through eBay on a priority package that arrived damaged?  Is there an eBay-usps contact we can ask for help?  Thanks!
