When I search and 2 items pop up -I tap on one to look at it. But then there is no “trash can” to get rid of that one item. How can I eliminate that item I just looked at… without deleting everything in the whole search?

This is what I do, on my desktop browser. I don't know if there's an equivalent method on the mobile app.
When I want to look at an item in the list of my search results, I do not left click it open. Instead, I right click it, which opens a drop down menu on which I click Open Link in New Private Window. That leaves the first page running while I check out that one listing. When I'm finished looking, I just "X out" of the listing and I'm right back where I was on my search results.

If you are using the eBay app you can go to your Recently Viewed list and delete individual items by using the "edit" link.
That option is not available when using a browser.
