Deceptive advertising on eBay

The deception is at an all time high on eBay. Example; I go to buy empty gelcaps, the listings give a price and show a picture. The price is $7 and the picture is 500 caps. I click on the listing and find that the price, $7 belongs to a 100 cap bag. The 500 cap bag is really $12. This is happening on thousands of items every day. What a colossal waste of time looking through all of these deceptive ads! EBay has gotten steadily worse over the years (joined in the 90s) and is close to impossible to shop here. You really have to go over every listing with a fine tooth comb to try to uncover the deception to try not to get ripped off. I'm sure that is the reason returns are common and no big deal, except again for the colossal waste of time! It's like I'm back in Isfahan trying not to get ripped off by the street merchants! Ridiculous collection of low life "sellers"!

Anything the "community" has to offer is futile! The only way to fix this is to fix the entire corrupt system. I'm sure D.O.G.E. would have a field day!

If you sort variation listings by lowest price, then the lowest quantity, lowest-priced variations will determine the sort order of the results, even if that is not the quantity you are looking for.

There are things you can do to get around that, however.

Try sorting by "Price plus shipping: highest first" instead of lowest. Use a price range to limit the results to one page, then scroll to the bottom of the results and scroll up instead of down. Skip over the sponsored listings that do not sort correctly.

By sorting highest first instead of lowest, the highest-priced variation in your price range will determine the sort order, and you can skip over all the 100-count variations that were at the top of your previous search.

Try this as a starting point for your search:

Deceptive advertising on eBay

I appreciate the "trick" to get around the loose crappy posting rules and the lead me by the nose in the wrong direction "eBay modified your search results" **bleep**. I really do!

I guess that I have delusions of grandeur in that eBay aught to clean up the mess that they created rather than me wasting my time navigating the garbage that shopping on eBay has become. Unfortunately the "ebay community" can only come up with tricks and communication directly with eBay has become just about impossible (by design I'm sure).

   Thanks again

You are welcome.

You can contact eBay, but if eBay has not changed how variation listings sort in the last however-many years, eBay is unlikely to change any time soon as a result of another complaint. But perhaps yours will be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

Use the "Tell us what you think" link on the search results page to provide feedback to page developers about issues with how search works.
