Hi everyone! Hoping you can advise on how I should handle this situation.
A customer started the return process of an item on 10/15/22. On Oct 17th, I acknowledged the return, messaging the customer that once I received the item in the condition I sent it, I would be glad to refund their money. The SAME DAY they sent a message saying they decided not to return it as it wouldn't be cost effective for them. I encouraged that they cancel the return request, of which they replied that they would look into it when they finished work that day. I kindly sent them a link to Ebay's Help page which explained how to cancel a return.
I haven't heard anything since the 17th, so I sent them a reminder today asking for resolution of either canceling the return request or returning my item. This is the message I received from them...
"I’m sorry but when I go through the whole process it doesn’t allow me to cancel the return. I’m not gonna send it back because it’s not cost-effective I literally would only get like five dollars back. I’d rather throw it in the garbage or give it away."
I don't think Ebay has released the funds from this transaction, and now the customer will not return my item.
Any advice on what I should do next?
Thanks in advance!

Don't do anything. The return will eventually time out. eBay doesn't release the funds unless the item gets back to you and you don't refund.
