I got a negative review due to an item being damaged when it was delivered. The item was properly packaged. The buyer let me know about the damage before leaving the review, I told them to open a return and I would happily accept. Instead they did not reply and left a negative review saying it was seller error. My first feedback revision was denied. Is there anything I can do? Is there anything I can do differently in the future to prevent this happening again?

The way to avoid this is to package so that damage cannot happen. When items arrive damaged, it inconveniences and disappoints the buyer. Returning the item for a refund is more inconvenience and apparently your buyer is very unhappy.
99% of the time when an item arrives damaged it is because it wasn't properly packaged. Extremely rough handling is normal handling and so you need to package the item accordingly.
For the future, don't ask a buyer for a feedback revision until you have made him whole and he is satisfied with how you handled the problem. You cannot send another one.
At this point, you could reply to the feedback with something similar to, "I am so sorry your item arrived damaged. As communicated previously, I am happy to take it back for a full refund with return shipping on me." At least that will show other buyers that you attempt to correct issues and provide good customer service.
