Buyer is not telling the truth in order to get a refund

I am really frustrated in that I have been buying and selling on ebay for many years.  I feel that I bring a lot of profit to ebay with my sales yet they consistently side with the buyer.  This time the buyer made me an offer, I accepted, the buyer paid me two days later.  I sent the buyer item to the authentication center the next morning after the buyer paid.  In this time the buyer communicated that she needed the item for a birthday on a specific date.  I know that the item reached her the day before that date.  The item was listed as "New with defects".  I clearly stated the defects and pictured them.  15 days later the buyer opened a case and is asking for a refund stating that the item arrived late for the birthday she needed if for (a clear lie) and that it had the defect that I clearly stated and pictured.  I just know that eBay will allow her to pursue the refund based on what I found below.  I am frustrated because  buyers do these things and ebay allows it.
