it’s hard to keep track of items

should be a 5 day max.

Sellers can choose to have their auctions run for 1, 3, 5, 7, or 10 days.

Not everyone searches eBay every day.

Auctions need to be active long enough for users to find them in the time between when the auction listing is live and searchable, and when the auction ends. The shorter the auction, the fewer users will see it. A user that does not see an auction can not bid on it.
