Additional shipping fees

I have a customer outside of the US who has bought some items and paid for them.

They are now requesting tracking, which means an additional $12 in cost to me. How can I recover that from the buyer? (They are OK with the extra charge)

Set up a listing for them to purchase, like this one -

I though of that, but I wasn't sure if that would be the best solution.
I did try sending a PayPal invoice to the customer, but the only contact I had for him was the eBay email address so I am not sure it will go through.
If not I may just try your suggestion.

Thanks.

I don't know if the masked eBay email will work for a paypal invoice - I'd love to know if it does.

You can ask the buyer for his real email - it is OK since you have a transaction together, but technically, eBay should get their fee on the additional shipping.

The customer (who is in Romania) said that he did not see or receive the PayPal invoice through the eBay email service. I did get a confirmation from PayPal that it had been sent, but no other comments from PayPal about it. I also did not receive any feedback from eBay that it was disallowed or removed, so I am unsure what the final outcome is of that.

I did take your other advice and set up an item in my store that was called "Additional Shipping/Handling Fee".

I used my own business logo as an image, assigned free shipping, and made the price the difference that the customer needed to pay.
It launched successfully, the customer "bought" the item, so I will be shipping his order today.

Thank you for your advice.

Regarding your other comment - "You can ask the buyer for his real email" - I agree that eBay should not block that, but so far I haven't found the right wording that will get the message through eBay's censors. They still don't allow sharing of contact information, even though we now have a business relationship.

That is one reason I send my business card with every shipment - so in the future customers will have my contact information.

That's odd - maybe it won't go through because it is an international buyer.  The few times I have needed to exchange info, I wrote it plainly - "in order to send you an invoice I need your email address".

Thanks for letting me know about the paypal invoice. 🙂
