It's absolutely absurd that if I accidentally have an item sent to my old address that eBay forbids them from sending it to another address. This is a huge pain in the ass.

It is also "absurd" for a buyer to not make sure that their shipping address is always up to date on Ebay and that the buyer did not bother to correct the wrong shipping address when they were on the checkout page processing their payment.
It is also a "huge pain in the "*ss" for the seller if the seller ships it to some address other than the one that is provided from Ebay. If they did that, they would lose their seller protection, and the buyer could file a phony "item not received" dispute and win.

Thanks for the snarky reply. I made an honest mistake and just wanted to fix it. I'm not asking sellers to go against eBay policy; I'm saying that eBay's uber-strict policy has really inconvenient side effects if someone just makes a mistake.

Ebay must protect it's sellers, too. Please try to understand this. Many times unfortunate sellers post here on this board that they send the item to an address that the buyer sends to them in a message other than the address Ebay provides, and then later the buyer files a bogus claim saying "item not received". Since the seller cannot prove that the item was delivered to the buyer's Ebay registered shipping address, the seller loses their item AND their money. Very sad.
In the future, always look at the shipping address on the Ebay checkout page and correct it if necessary before you submit your payment.
Good luck.

Sometimes snarky posts net a snarky rely...
eBay displays your ship to address for your review each time you check out along with a link to change it if desired. The seller is required to ship to the address YOU approve at checkout and this is for both your protection and his. You probably wouldn't appreciate it if someone impersonating you asked the seller to change the address to have it redirected to him thereby stealing your purchase. When eBay makes a policy, it's usually for a good reason.
You can contact the seller and ask if he would be willing to cancel the order and relist so that you can repurchase with the correct address. That will cost him double payment processing fees for your error, so it would be in your favor to be extra polite and appreciative if he complies...he is under no obligation to do so.
