So I'm noticing a trend and I checked the forum and saw other sellers talking about this as well: buyers who get items and then say they smell like smoke when it's from a non-smoking home. It's the easiest new way apparently to get a refund from eBay and I wonder why this keeps happening? It's not too often but it's enough that I'm noticing it's a way for people to push returns through that they couldn't otherwise (although they use the wrong reason to start the return which is another ball of wax) and I'm at my wits end with this. I did have one person leave feedback about it despite the fact they wouldn't even accept a solution & they complained the whole way because they didn't read the ad from the start – so I think it was retaliation that they didn't read the delivery time frame; but then I wonder if others read that feedback and think: I can say that too! I just don't like that I know it's not me and I have had an issue one time where a whole bunch of orders that were shipped together ended up smelling like "smoke" and it was a USPS carrier that was then reprimanded; but other than that, it's not something that should come up ever yet it pops up every now and again, and I wonder how we are supposed to handle this. As a psych major I do know that there's a population of people out there that "smell smoke" when there's no smoke at all and it's actually their brains triggering that smell that they swear is there but no one else can smell it (Google it) – is that what is going on? Or is it a new way to get free goodies or attempt to? I also had a person who bought a used outdoor jacket that my sister wore twice and then wanted to sell, and despite being cleaned and disinfected, despite her not being a smoker, the buyer swore they smelled smoke and I'm thinking could it be from my sister wearing it outside and walking passed someone who smoked and somehow it stayed on through all of that? I just don't get this complaint because in that case it smelled so good when I placed it in the package and yet I received that complaint when it's delivered. Is there a neighbor who smokes outside and the package is near them when they do it? What is going on? I just am really bugged out by this cause it happens every once and awhile and I don't know what to believe anymore. Any advice?

If the buyer files a Returns Request for Item Not as Described, accept the return and supply a return shipping label for its return. Refund the buyer when you get the item back and relist the item, increasing the price.
