Abraham Lincoln

Lincoln warned the South in his Inaugural Address: "In your hands, my dissatisfied fellow countrymen, and not in mine, is the momentous issue of civil war. The government will not assail you.... You have no oath registered in Heaven to destroy the government, while I shall have the most solemn one to preserve, protect and defend it."
He married Mary Todd, and they had four boys, only one of whom lived to maturity.
Lincoln never let the world forget that the Civil War involved an even larger issue. This he stated most movingly in dedicating the military cemetery at Gettysburg: "that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain--that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom--and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."

Brutin... I got it from first doing a search on Google and coming up with FDR, then read an article that quoted him saying, "We have nothing to fear than fear itself" I thought about that but then searched 5 pages of "depression" first, "new deal" "deal" and something else that I can't remember right now 😞

In 1937, a bill was introduced to add Susan B. Anthony as the fifth face on Rushmore, but, obviously, it didn't pass.

It's probably Lincoln something; figuring out who has been easy on all of these. It's figuring out what that's a pain. Stick with stuff dealing with lincoln

Jefferson is on the face of the nickel (wrote the Declaration of Independence, founded Univ of VA) but so was Alexander Hamilton (1st sec of treasury, killed in duel with Aaron Burr)
