Looks like you got some replies to this in your post in the Pottery, Glass, & Porcelain group:
It helps to know when somebody has posted something in more than one place in the eBay community. That way nobody is doing duplicate work to try to help.

It's not really a rule, as far as I know. It just helps to know what the discussion has been. Most people who try to help on these boards and are knowledgeable are the type of people who like to research items. Of course, there are also those people who are so very experienced that they know things off the top of their heads. And then there are people like me who do try to look things up online. And still further, there are people who don't know but will throw out guesses. I think all of these types are beneficial...
Although now that I think about it, about 4-5 years ago when new management took over the eBay boards they did say there was a rule about posting the same thing in more than one board. ... brings back memories.

a sugar bowl will have a spoon slot in the lid. A bisquit jar won't.

Number 6 on this page refers to the posting of duplicate threads... So I guess they do have something. But I wasn't complaining, I just thought it would be useful to know about the other thread.
