Help with Brass Eagle with posts on the back -- What is it for?

I found 4  of these Brass Eagles with two posts on the back at an estate sale.  I can't find anything like them in my research.  They measure 3 1/2" from wing to wing.  It is 3/8" from head to feet.  The posts are 3/8" long and 1/8" in diameter at the base.  They have the number 7402 on the back.  They appear to be too large for military pins.  I wonder if they may be meant to be used as a furniture accent.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks so much.

Re: Help with Brass Eagle with posts on the back -- What is it for?

Hi,

I believe these are war eagle worn by an american colonel's insignia from his collar used in the early 1900's. If the head is turned the direction of the arrows the nation is at war.  If the head is turned the direction of the olive leaves the nation is at peace.  This head turning style went out after the First World War.

Hope this helps and hopefully my information is right lol 🙂

I looked at the colonel eagles that are listed on eBay and they don't seem to have posts as large as the ones on the backs of mine?
