ART DECO / ART NOUVEAU IDENTIFICATION!!

Thanks April! That helped clarify the differences. Can you add photos to a guide? Photos would really illustrate the stylistic differences! Kathleen

ART DECO / ART NOUVEAU IDENTIFICATION!!

this actually relates to the topic... I am a member of the Detroit Art Deco Society & the Michigan Modernism - check out www.antquinet.org or maybe its antinet.com - and the www.dia.org so if that is a resource anyone cares to take advantage of, please do so. I also have several indepth historical & photographical books on the topic. Now how was that for staying focused?

ART DECO / ART NOUVEAU IDENTIFICATION!!

April, This is a fascinating topic, one that has intrigued me for years. In recent years, it seems that everybody has been getting on the Art Deco bandwagon. I used to see lots of real Art Deco. But as time has passed people are calling all sorts of things Art Deco that are not. I hate to see the public fooled into believing something not true. Very little today that's advertised as Deco really is. You really need those angular lines or at least some kind of lines! I guess because Nouveau doesn't sell as well as Deco, folks are making everything Deco. At least that's what I'm seeing. The little Nouveau that I have I wouldn't give up for anything. And thanks for the link, Lynn. You are always there for us, and I appreciate you. Dave

Dave, I agree and a lot of stuff that is really industrial/streamlined is labeled as AD. Boy now I am thinking about this marvelous 1920s Electrolux vacuum cleaner I owned in mint condition. kinda would love to see it again. moggy
