Hi! Like you, my eyesight is changing with age. I got a jeweler’s loupe for a few dollars and i highly recommend it if you will encounter more jewelry to research in the future. It paid for itself a dozen times over, and is now a valuable tool for me. That doesn’t help much with your current examinations but for the future.

Looks like 1-20 12 K ??? Would probably mean that it's plated with 12 Kt gold, usually over sterling. This is typical for jewelry from the 1940's time frame and the brooch style is of that era.

Can you make out the name on back? My eyes are so bad I can't make it out with a good magnifying glass. Where is the best place to get a jewelry loop? I looked on ebay, but I don't trust some of those. What magnifying number is best I see 40/25 and others. I would appreciate your help. Thanks

Where would you recommend getting a jewelry loop? I looked on ebay and I don't understand the magnifing numbers. I want one that magnifies enough, but not to where it is blurry and I can see the name on my items. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

woodw is right it does look like 120 12K which is gold plate on sterling. I have several pins in this style that say 120 12K plus you will probably find the word sterling somewhere on the piece. It looks like the gold has worn off.

Sorry, I can't see a manufacturers name on your piece. Most of the pieces similar to yours that I have had were marked Coro, but I think most of the major jewelry manufacturers were producing similar in that era (1940's).
Regarding a loupe, there are thousands online and some are not expensive, I have paid as little as 2-3 dollars and as much as $25, they all seem to do the same job. The one I use most often has 3 swing lenses in one case. 10x, 20x and 30x magnification. I keep one in my purse for when I am out shopping and have several others scattered throughout the house as I frequently misplace them. Some loupes are available with a loop at the top, so they could be worn with a chain around the neck, handy to wear one that way if working on jewelry for a session of identification.

I got this on another well known site and love it. It has a UV function (I know it's helpful for jewelry but don't know why - diamonds, I think) and a light too, and very small.
