eBay in Japan?

I've sold stuff to eBayers in Japan before. I guess they just pull up the US eBay. Today, The ZNE Store sold some stuff to a buyer who had this website address as part of their email address - so I checked it out: http://us-buyer.com/english.html I am wondering if any of you might get the value of putting that logo html into your auctions? They don't really explain why it would be of benefit? Any ideas?

I really don't know. Ebay has such strict rules sometimes, even when you think that it is of benefit to them. I'll try to get some time to check this out further. ~Jillian

eBay in Japan?

If you want to sell to Japan I say do it! My experience with Japanese buyers is not from EBAY at all...rather from having a painting studio for years in Downtown Seattle where we have visitors from Japan. HOWEVER avoid this website!!! Many Japanese have plenty of English to buy and understand the rules in English...most important is screening your buyers and do not use this happy American selling strategy I call Heroic Shipping. Heroic Shipping is advertising "Same day shipping///super fast shipping" If the consumer wants that they can come over here and haul the purchases home themselves. A growing problem for American sellers is buyers both in the states and overseas who max out their credit cards and checking accounts on Sundays (USA time) We get the word from Paypal that the item is paid for ...well yeah...then the word comes on Monday or Tuesday after WE HAVE SHIPPED overseas...that the PAYPAL payment is reversed ...how can this happen??? Well it happens...I was scolded at the Answer Center by 'expert' veteran responders for being stupid giving this answer to "how could I lose my payment since the seller paid with paypal?" WELL even in the USA ...American banks handling checking accts and/or credit cards do their online maintenance/and banking maitenence between Saturday night and early Monday morning say 1AM on Monday morning depending on what is your time zone. A buyer could get into a buying frenzy and not be able to see online how much money they actually still have in credit and cash...then OVERSPEND//and pay via Paypal for multiple purchases that appear to the seller as clearing ...I am NOT talking E-checks... Suddenly the buyer has no funds in credit or cash and OH gee the seller has done HEROIC SHIPPING!!!! Well add to the mix the fact that items sent overseas say to Japan cannot be insured...hmmm and there is no overseas tracking... An unscrupulous buyer can rip you off by merely using PAYPAL then filing the SNAD against you. This dilema just befell a power seller pal of mine who is out $200 for a dress that she sent to Japan. She believes that the dress did get delivered and the buyer just kept the dress and got the funds reversed. SO what I am saying is it is better to rely on your own skills and build your skills yourself rather going to one of these companies who will help you... ONLY offer small flat art work to overseas sellers. Regardless of the location of the buyer...drag your feet a few days for shipping. Heroic Shipping is not a benefit to anyone...and the Heroic Shipper's FB may simply read WOW best shipping EVER!!! Really, not a great endorsement for your art. I hope this stement is helpful. eBay in Japan?

HOWEVER avoid this website!!! I'm gonna have to disagree...sorta. I wouldn't add their logo to my listings but I'd have no qualms at all shipping my product to them on behalf of their overseas customers. While it's true that the citizens in countries such as Japan probably have great English language skills, there is still a segment of the population that would prefer to have a broker handle their US transactions. Reason? They can purchase in larger quantities with the benefit of paying domestic shipping, then have their purchases shipped home in co-op cargo containers, saving them a great deal of money overall. These ebay brokerage companies operate in several countries and I've shipped to them many times without incident or paypal risk because these companies are the ones who bid, pay and receive my merchandise. r-

New Zealand don't have ebay anymore, they have to list via the usa ebay. I'm surprised that the link is still there. That is why the local NZ auction site is taking over in that country.

eBay in Japan?

Well, I wasn't so much asking about the need for these interim buyers. I mean, people use sellers assistants, and people are going to use "buyers" assistants too - even if sometimes it doesn't make sense. My question is more... On that website they are giving you html to use on your auctions that will show their logo, identifying you as someone who is willing to sell to them / for Japanese buyers. (I am guessing that is what the logo would signify.) My question is more... what would be the value of doing that? Will you somehow find more buyers if you add the logo? Can people even search for a logo? Is there something in the html that I don't see? OR, is it just an advertisement for this particular buyers assistant - in which case... huh? Anyway, any thoughts on that aspect?

Hey Chel, The Japanese part reads "ookushon daikou" which means "auction, acting as agent for" They are simply a buyer's agent who has signed up with automatic logo insertion. The link takes the Japanese reader to the main Japanese language site which says, "Hey we buy stuff in the US and we will ship it to you, or we can bid on eBay auctions for you and ship it to you". Note that their main Japanese page has an EXPIRED Thawte security certificate proudly displayed. Kind of like the cute little kids you see running around Nagano with snow suits reading "SNOT HOUSE" in English on the back.

As you queried, a Japanese buyer can not as far as I know search for items listed with the US-BUYER.COM logo, so it may not draw buyers to your item.

I've sold to Japan before (coincidently the same silk bracelets I'm making now, that I made last summer), and didn't have a problem with it. The only way I can see that this would be of great benefit to a seller is if you have a product that is in high demand in Japan, some sort of current trend there that you can take advantage of (like snow suits with SNOT HOUSE on the backs, lol). That reminds me, an old flame once brought me a beautiful bathrobe from a trip to Japan. It was white cotton with navy blue Japanese letters/characters printed on it. I wonder to this very day whether it said something like SNOT HOUSE, lol. :D /Karen

It's just an advertisement for this particular buyers assistant. The html tag doesn't come up in search and there's nowhere on the website that directs customers towards those who display the logo. r-
