What is the best way to list ACEOs?

I'm just curious... When I type in ACEO on the search bar, a zillion ACEOs come up - but mine are almost never there! I've tried to figure out why I can't find mine, but the only thing I can see different between my listings and most of the others is that mine are categorized "Art - Self representing Artist - prints" while most of the others say "painting" or "drawing" at the end. Is there a "best way" to list in order to get people to even see the auctions (most of mine only get 5 or 6 views - although I have still sold most of them). What is a usual/good number of views for ACEOs in your opinion? Any tips for driving people to your auction?

That is a small number of views, even in these 'hard' times. How is your start rating? - check your 'seller dashboard' under 'your account' in 'my ebay'. You need to be 'raised' to rate somewhere. ALWAYS put ACEO in your title. ALWAYS make your listings meaningful. - Try to put in an identifier so that people who scan listings and like your work, will come look again - I always put CRIDER, but ideally your ID should be shorter. I'll go look at your listings and see what I can see right now, what you do. -- ~Jillian artist, Jillian Crider ... google me!

OK. You need to sell enough (total of 10) to get some Detailed star ratings. You may have some already, but work hard to get those full ten, this will get you rated higher. Work on finding an identifier for youself. SS might be enough - always put it on the end so people can look for you, or even S-S. Use keywords, NOT titles in your listings. Giclee is NOT needed. Just put Print. If people want a print they don't particularly care with ACEOs if it is a giclee or not. Since you do Limited editions I'd start off. ACEO LE Print end with S-S Digital could be a word you incorporate, or digital art - art is a highly searched keyword, believe it or not. ACEO LE Print Digital art ....... Personally I would never list anything at 99 cents. If you want your work to be taken seriously you have to first give yourself respect and meaning and treasure your own work. At 99 cents you are virtually paying others to take your work off your hands. While selling may feel good, it defeats your worth as an artist ... IMHO. (Personal view - so hope noone takes offense.) Your shipping price is good. That is what I ship mine for. So that is good - not seen as overpriced - though those that buy for 99 cents can easily see it in a way that they are paying TOO much for shipping as shipping is twice the cost of the item. Another reason to raising your price to at least 2x the shipping price. Series is a good word to use for prints, but you don't particularly need the name in there unless it's very searchable. Original should not be used for prints. There are all kinds of arguments over this, but usually it is ONLY used for one-off works - and usually not printed. Definitely consider using it for original art. It's a good key word. Don't use the quote marks - they just take up space. The titles are for SEARCHING, not reading. Use all the words that you THINK people will search for ... FAIRY FLOWERS NUDE FANTASY Fantasy is a good search word, so it's good you use it. List at different times of the day. List different days. Around 4-7pm Eastern time is good. Sundays are fairy good. Make sure you do an 'about me' page. Use it to brag on your capabilities, and anything that stands you out from others. What is your passion? Why do you do what you do? Who are you? Who are you really? Be creative. People want to buy from 'friends', especially if your credibility as a creative person is known. Always put your listings in the new listing thread in any groups you belong to (if allowed - some groups don't). Find other ways to put up your latest works - maybe on wetcanvas (miniature forum - ATC/ACEOs). Make sure they can find you on ebay, even though you can't advertise openly. Send out newsletters and other emails. Get business cards printed with your details your ebay listings URL. Use the '3 foot rule' ... give a business card to anyone within 3 feet of you! Some of this may or may not help. But you have to try it all. When you're new, it's all about getting noticed. Good Luck. -- ~Jillian artist, Jillian Crider ... google me!

Wow Jillian! 😮 Thanks for all that - how do you have time to go for such an in-depth response to just one person's question? I feel so honored and grateful for your efforts! I am going to go through all your tips one at a time (as I have the time) and try them all. I'm always so busy here at home (we have a small farm as well as a studio) that I don't get a lot of opportunity to learn the ins and outs of the selling possibilities on the web, but I'm working on it slowly. I do have a couple of questions though... What is a "star rating"? Do you mean feedback (I have 142 feedback points at 100% positive) or is that something else entirely? Also what is your "dashboard" ? I can't find anything like that on my summary or account pages. Anyway, I guess like all good things, sucess at internet selling just takes patience, persistence and a willingness to learn. And it is so nice to find help along the way. Thanks again!

Jillian's response is brilliant. The only thing I can add is, don't give up. It takes time to develop a clientele. Then when you do, treat your customers like royalty. Email them with a thank-you when they pay, and let them know when you've shipped (good communication is highly valued by customers). We've had a couple of people who come on the boards, who give up way too easily. And if you ever need moral support, the people on this board are absolutely amazing at supporting fellow artists.

Okay, I did a search on the help pages and figured out why I can't find my "dashboard" - I'm not a power seller! Honestly, I doubt if I ever will be one since it takes a ton of sales, or receipt of way more money than I will probably ever be able to get, to be one. The funny thing is that except for the volume of sales and money, I would qualify. I've been selling on ebay since back sometime before 2002 and I have never received a single negative feedback. Plus, if anything, I over communicate with my buyers, and I always get detailed, positive comments on my fast shipping time and careful packaging. I would have more feedback by about 3 times too if buyer's feedback counted more than once, because I tend to have fewer unique buyers and more repeat customers. I've had a couple of customers buy from me as many as 20 times each over the years! Oh well! (SIGH!):-( PS sunshine - I totally agree about Jillian's response! And thanks for YOUR support too!

I'm not a powerseller and I have a dashboard. You may not get one UNTIL you have at least 10 DSRs. -- ~jana

First sentence of post #3 - DSR (detailed star ratings) when you have 10 your dashboard should show up. You may already have some DSRs, and not know it. -- ~Jillian artist, Jillian Crider ... google me!

By the way, some people use ATC in their listings (art trading card) - this really isn't necessary any more. And if you use the word 'card' you'll get people looking for greeting cards, and could buy and give you a negative as your ACEO doesn't OPEN UP (like a card) for a message. You really have to think outside of OUR obvious sometimes. -- ~Jillian artist, Jillian Crider ... google me! -- Edited by artistjillian at 08/14/2008 1:45 PM PDT

So exactly how do you get a "dashboard" or know you are even close to getting one if it doesn't show up until you've already arrived? I mean - can you work at it somehow by doing something or do you just have to wait for it to magically appear one day? I tried to find the answer in the help pages, but it just keeps leading back into frustrating circles. I have never used ATC or card in my listings.

You have had seven buyers within the last 90 days -- IF all of them left "stars", you should be getting close. Once the "stars" show up on your feedback page, then you should get a dashboard. You will be able to find the "seller dashboard" under your "my account" on your "my ebay" page. Clear as mud???? BTW, I only checked the 90 days -- if you have been selling art LONGER than that -- since the DSR's started in ??Jan?? (somebody help me), you may be even closer. -- ~jana

I've been selling art for a couple of years (among other things) but ACEOs only for about a month. However I have sold 21 of the 27 I have had listed within the last 30 days, and my feedback score is up 21 in that same 30 day period. (I assume you mean positive feedback when you say stars?) So shouldn't I have a dashboard thingee by now? The feedback has all been very good.

"Stars" are not the same as feedback. They refer to Detailed Seller Ratings (DSRs) which is what buyers leave for you if they choose. When a buyer goes to leave feedback, in addition to leaving Positive/Negative and a comment, there is a set of 4 categories where they can leave from one to 5 stars. 5 being the best. Until you've had 10 buyers leave you DSRs your stars won't show up. Click on your feedback number and you'll see the "Detailed Seller Rating" box. In yours it will say something like "...will show up when this member has received at least 10 detailed seller ratings". Click on my feedback number for example and you'll see that I have 4 sets of star ratings in that same spot. -- -Ann "Did you ever walk into a room and forget why you walked in?
