Weird Email Messages

I was wondering if anyone else here gets weird messages to do commissioned pieces. I think this guy found me when I listed my website on the Dallas Craig list. I think his message is odd. I sent him back a message that I do not do commissioned figure drawings-- that the figure drawings on my site are the only ones available for sale. (I'm definately not doing any personal commissioned pieces like that... who knows what kind of guy this is). Here's the message I got: "Kristin, my name is Ken. I am a 35 year old male who graduated with an art degree in 92 and I spend much of my free time painting and drawing female figure models. I have been in a wheelchair for 20 years always wondered what it would be like if the shoe was on the other foot and was curious as to how much you might charge for a few commissioned drawings of me. I would love to hear from you. Thanks KD"

Oh... also, it kind of makes me worry whether or not I should have my picture on my profile & artist biography page. I just added it recently and got this message. Kind of gives me the creeps...

I think you should turn him down - tell him you have too many commitments. It seems an odd message and more like a pick up line than another artist. I wouldn't feel bad about turning him down - he can go and ask someone else for the commission. What gets me is that he seems to want a female artist specifically and that just seems odd. Just politely tell him "Sorry, I've got too much on my plate right now." - in a way, it would be true - whether or not you are overly busy, you can ALWAYS be "too busy" to accommodate people who make you uncomfortable. Oops sorry, reread your post and saw you DID turn him down. Yeah, there are all kinds of people out there on the internet. Just tell them "No". :) As to your picture, if you think you will get more "uncomfortable" emails, take it down. Bekka

If he is a weirdo at least he has good taste.....it was probably best to turn him down.....your first feeling is usually the right one.....

I agree..it's best to not follow through. I just wonder how many 'others' he has contacted in this way...if it doesn't feel right...

Wasn't it Ted Bundy who pretended that he was crippled to get women to help him with his groceries or something? That's the other thing that made me think this message was pretty odd. I haven't heard back from him again, which is a good thing.

Hi all, just checking in an saw the weird e-mail post. It is my opinion that noone should have their picture on their site. Especially if your a woman. Too many weirdos out there and it's too easy for people to be tracked down these days. My sister-in-law, who passed away 3 years ago in Seattle was walking home from work and Ted Bundy drove by in his VW and tried to pick her up one day. She was smart enough to turn him down. Please be careful all. I'm even leary of putting my name out there. Maybe I'm being paranoid but the times we're living in aren't the same as they were 30 years ago when you could leave your door unlocked at night. Follow your instincts and stay safe. Judy
