Pricing stategy

There have been several threads on other Forums about the low prices being obtained for our work. Many people feel that the 99cent or 99p UK listing is harming the perceived value of what we do. I am not going to list at that price as it means that I'm paying people to take my work. Lots of others also agree that we should up the start prices to a minimum of 4.99 . By the time you pay the fees plus postage particularly for me sending from the UK it just isn't worth it at silly prices. Anyone else agree with this? Ken

I will eventually post pictures of my album. It is screw bound too, but store bought and not as nice as nechtan's! The pictures are in the camera but not downloaded yet. I have some pastels (ACEOs) I intend to frame. I am going to "float" mine. Even with an edge left for matting, sometimes some pieces still look suffocated (for lack of a better word on my part) if they are put in a mat with a 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 opening. It's always nice to see options and I think if a collector sees just the right mat/frame/album for their piece(s), they will gladly bid. I think it is very hard to find much that works in a store (at least in my area it is!) and it depends so much on the style and subject of the painting.

I agree about miniatures looking suffocated in small frames. I intend to 'float' the ones of mine that are being framed including my 4x4s My personal taste is to be able to see each work independantly so I don't really like the multiple frame thing - although there are circumstances where it would be perfect ie some series works.

I know this is dragging the pricing issues up again. But was just watching CNN. They were talking about the effect 'Wally's World' has on consumers - I think that is what you call the big box people here in the USA. One thing really rammed home a point to me, re pricing. They reporter said... By pricing e.g. DVD players at just $49, if we go elsewhere and see DVD players prices for $149 we feel that these more expensive ones are just ripping us off, not that it might be a better product, etc. ~Jillian
