Hi,
A friend of mine who does rather well lists her work as Outsider Art. She said some buyers prefer outsider art. I think she is just a good artist and that's why she is selling well. I just listed a few things under OUTSIDER ART because my frind does.
As far as you know, is it true that buyers search for Outsider art?
I don't "feel" like an outsider and frankly I feel odd in that catagory.

Hi Dorthea,
Many buyers search "Outsider art", and many don't.
"Outsider art" refers to artwork done by an artist with no formal training. Sometimes outsider art is 'weird', so those who seek weird artwork might search for "outsider" art.
Using the term "outsider" may bring you some attention but in the end it's your artwork that will pull in the bids.
Describe your work accurately so the right buyers will be able to find you. If you do not feel that your work is "outsider" art - then list it in another category instead. :)
Hope this helped,
Jane
I use the 'other' category
then type in "My Own"
which as far as I am concerned is closest
to truth as it can get...
I hate labels on anyone actually or their work.
What does matter to me is the result of my art
attracting someone else enough that it may get
purchased by someone.

From what I understand, outsider = raw = brut art. By definition, it's done by artists who live in isolation from the rest of the art world and have no training; often they are institutional patients who do art for therapy or because of compulsive behaviour that they are venting.
A few months ago, I did some web searches on it, and found it very interesting. Give it a shot if you have a few hours to surf and you'll find some very good (and some very bad) work, lol.

Oh... and *blush* I've occasionally used the term when I take one of my husband's drawings, or a friend's daughter's, and kind of reinterpreted it into an artwork.
My husband will be the first to joke that he should be put in isolation in an institution, lol. 😉
I personally love outsider art and i probably fit into this catergory very well considering i have no formal art training at all, like to choose unusual and varied subjects and utulize art as therapy...so thank you for the link (making 3ds) maybe i have found my niche or at least some kindred spirits lol
