I just listed a 5"x 5" painting of a Rhea that I saw at a new game farm that opened nearby. I never knew that male Rheas are polygamous and can impregnate many females at one time. That part didn't strike me as much as the fact that the male builds a large nest and all the females he impregnated lay their eggs in that nest. After the females lay their eggs...they wander off to be with other males.(the nerve of those hussies lol) The male Rhea then sits on the eggs incubating them till they hatch. He will attack almost anyone approaching the nest or the chicks once they hatch.
