How do people bid ?

I'm very curious to see how people are bidding. Sometimes, bids are going up very quickly, sometimes, there are a lot of persons who are watching and nobody bids ... I don't see differences in Aceo quality ( speaking for mine ... 🙂 ) so I'm wondering ... Nicole

Are you looking for a logical explanation, Nicole??? It could be subject matter, it could be quality, it could be emotional response, it could be the last phase of a new moon. 'Course someone else might have a truer explanation. Loree

How do people bid ?

I think it is just personal taste. I am watching a couple of thing I will not bid on right now. I looked through about 50 pages of ACEOs last night. and "OMG that is so good"ed over a lot of them but I only bid on one. Lots of reasons for this ie I think it's really good but not what i would buy, or I think it's really good but out of my price range etc etc etc

But I'm pretty sure Loree is right - it is dependant on luna phases... at least that is the only thing that I can put it down to.

And do you think that the hour for the end of the auction influences ? Do people think : Well... I will be at my job when this auction ends, I will not be here to put a last bid if I'm outbid so, it's not worth bidding on it ... ? 😉

I think about that all the time... if I have my auctions end around 8-10pm ebay time (California time), it seems I am more likely to get last minute bids:)

Some people only snipe bid. I don't use one of those services, but sometimes I watch and wait because other people do. Rarely do I bid when something is first listed. Sometimes I watch a lot of things and wait because it depends on whether I win what I'm bidding on and where it ends, and then I decide if i can bid on something else and which I want the most. Sometimes I want to bid and can't because I have already spent what I had to spend. I'm having fun with some extra Christmas money right now, but soon I'll be back to one or two a week.

How do people bid ?

I have noticed no corelation between time an auction ends and its final price. My only strategy about this is not to list in the early morning (my time) because I'm not awake then to list it, lol. /Karen

Thanks Karen, I think also, that people can always try to bid. When I know that I will not be present at the end of auction, I just put a higher bid so it goes in a good way for the seller. If I bid for a seller, I think that he desserves anyway to get a good price. If I'm outbid , I will at least have put the price higher ! 🙂

I can't see how you can factor the finishing time into auctions if unles you are limiting your selling to your own time zone. If you set it up to finish in the early eening where you are it is going to be just before dawn somewhere. That's why ebay has proxy bidding, and why some pwople use snipemachines.

I cant see a difference either, but I have had West coast collectors ask me to list 7PST to 9PST, but so many people are using bid sniper I dont think it matters as much as it used to. Those second generation trackers can be a little help sorting it all out.

How do people bid ?

I had heard Sunday was the best day to list... so I started listing on Sundays. When everyone else did. And so my listings often didn't appear for hours because they were caught in the eBay traffic jam. Now I list when the work and the listing are done unless its a timed event. Since I work nights, my bidding is usually done between midnight and five, starting with Ending Soonest, so the night owl listers get the edge with me.

About hours, I have a question which is certainly silly ! 😞 what is the reference time for ebay ? I often submit my listings in the evening for me and hour displayed is around 13 or 14 PST... First, what does PST mean ? I believe that US are so wide that there is several hours between east and west ? so what hour has been chosen ? For me, there is 9 hours ago of shift ! 🙂

Pacific Standard Time - its West Coast time, where eBay lives.
