I started using Alkyds when I was in school when they first came out in the 80's. I absolutely loved them. The one thing that bugged me most about oils is that they didn't dry the same color which they are applied. Alkyds do. Also, unlike oils they all dry at the same rate of speed. If I wanted to slow down the drying time, I used Titanium white oils. The biggest difference is that they are slightly more transparent. However, once you get used to this, you can work it out. My Alkyd paintings won several awards. I researched the terminology and found that most people list them under oils. Unfortunately, health reasons forced me to give them up. As soon as I am well enough, I'm going to try Genesis.
