Looking at that guy makes me nervous!! I can tell he wants to take a chunk out of me with that beak! I don't know how you do it but your birds are so realistic and fantastic. -- Reality was once someone's dream.

Carolyn, I know that issue far too well... People have no clue of the true value of art... They see it on EBay and think, Discounts and bargains!!! And Ooooo, I know macaws and other large birds may look scary... and some can be so unsure of you that they might bite... but no. I adore birds!!! They are so snuggly and so loving and affectionate... Hmmm, I Love snuggling babies under my chin even these huge ones... They NEED mommy lovin'!!!

Carolynn, good for you for holding firm on your price. Yes, eBay buyers expect everything for a bargain. I stopped listing my original photography prints after an influx of new sellers starting listing at 99¢ with free shipping. There's no way you can sell at that price without losing money. I guess some people just want to build up their feedback with these giveaways, but it makes the real pros look their their work is overpriced. Always list your art for what YOU feel it's worth. You worked long and hard on that painting, and it's beautiful. If someone doesn't like the price, well, you said it. Let them paint their own. -- Kathy

It's a good think he can't jump out Carolynn, I love looking at them, but can't stand to even be in the same room as one if it's not in a cage. Scars the you known out of me. I got bite my a parakeet when I was about 5 and I decided that is what caused my irrational fear of birds. Stand firm on your price, I think sometimes we underprice ourselves and people think if we don't value our work then why should they. -- Reality was once someone's dream.

I have a parrot who has lived with me for 25 years, since he was nine months old. Parrots don't get spayed/neutered, and at a certain age become very territorial. Last December he VERY unexpectedly lurched at me when I was feeding him and took my fingertip half off. Took about six stitches to put things back together. So yes, parrots are to be respected. Carolynn, I agree that your painting is worth far more than your asking price, so if anyone tells you otherwise, tell 'em to stuff it. Brenda, your landscape is just beautiful. Very nice. :) -- Kathy

Brenda that's a very pretty painting! Kathy i had a couple of parrots for about 26 years. After my injuries, i couldn't care for them, and was fortunate to have a friend who took them and gave them a good home. I sure miss the SCREAMING! I love those birds. My son goes to visit them from time to time, so i'm happy, they are happy and my friend is taking great care of them. -- my blog http://carolynnmcdade.blogspot.com/

You're really lucky to have friends caring for your birds. There are days when I think I can't handle George anymore, but I'm so afraid of him ending up in the wrong home. Even though he's turned into a total beast, it would be hard to give him up. They do become members of the family. What pet actually says "Hi" when you come home? We can't handle him like we used to without getting bit, but we bought him a HUGE cage, give him tons of toys and treats, and I think he's happy. When they reach that age they have parrot puberty, and the relationship changes from one of cuddling and play to one of mutual respect. They are wonderful animals, but definitely not for everyone. -- Kathy

Carolynn, I just love your Chickadee with the up-swept wings! Did anyone write and tell you that your Emperor Penguins for $12.99 is an unbelievably great deal?! lol. I once went into a gallery and saw a 4x4inch canvas panel painted flat blue with a simple white outline of a bird on a branch. It was priced at $50. Since then, I have held the theory that any original painting holds at least that same worth! Whether the economy favors it or not, original art is valuable. So, yes, I believe all of your listings are priced at a good value for the customer. I have five Eclectus parrots. The mommy and daddy, and their three babies. Babies who are now 18yrs old LOL. I can still handle two of the babies I hand-raised. For the other three birds, I use thick suede welding gloves that are long enough to cover my forearms. That works well, and I can still give them the petting they need. My husband can handle one of the ones I can't...so that helps too =) Yes, parrots are alot of work and frustration...but, it is amazing to have such wild and smart little creatures in my life....and, as my hubby says, they're better than kids cuz you can lock them in their cages and go out whenever you want. heehee, -- Kathryn Bio http://angelself.com/bio.html Blog http://new-art-angelself.blogspot.com/ Facebook:

Wow so many people have parrots! I didn't realize... and yes they can be cantankerous souls, but i guess it's ok. Birds have to be stern and look stern to try and survive in the wild...! My red lored amazon, Cody, was 26 when i gave her to my friend... she/he adores kids and is so gentle with them. Me? She chased me (on foot LOL) when the kids were around, but if no one else was home, she settled for me. The bird would decide to try and bite once in a while, but i distracted her by putting my finger high over her head and said "no biting!" It worked 75% of the time. I loved your bird stories, thanks! Kathryn, i didn't sell the penguins and i know all my paintings are probably under priced. And i'm not the only one - i've seen paintings listed way too low, and was often tempted to write the seller (but managed to mind my own business). I'm brokesville, no one's buying anything even at $12.99, but i'll keep plugging along. You're all wonderful artists and friends! -- my blog http://carolynnmcdade.blogspot.com/
