One of the major projects I've been putting off for a while -- and might till next winter because painting outdoors is what I've been looking forward to anyway -- is to finally use some of the real parchment I bought years ago at a historical recreation event. Cut it to ACEO size and do something in a genuine medieval method and technique.
I've got several good source books and some authentic materials, but getting everything out all at the same time is going to take major rearranging, it's not a small undertaking even though it is. I'm not an expert in those historical techniques though, I just have good books and a magnifying glass. I know some people who do it all the time who have the skills of the ancient scribes.
Still, every now and then I get tempted to use those techniques in a modern work, and will probably break the barrier between pure authenticity and just enjoying the materials the next time I get all that stuff out.
