Buckle up... this IS the shift we NEED! Great New direction!

Ebay's biggest problem was it thought and acted like just another website.  It was that short-sighted mentality that justified directly competing links to off ebay websites selling what folks came to ebay to buy.  I've had NOTHING good to say about this.. EVER!  It is, in my opinion, the single reason why eBay got passed up in sales and is now just, barely, the 3rd largest ecommerce site...

The removal of these ads is HUGE, not just in themselves and in the results it will bring, but because it marks a shift in direction... and NOT a small shift.  Ebay wants to be "where the world shops first" but it a can't do that if it's thinking like a website.  It also can't be retail minded if it's filled with the same people who think that driving people off ebay is good business sense.

Imagine a world where you log unto eBay to buy that widgit you came here to buy but everywhere you look there are links to that brand new blockbuster movie that just got released that day and links to everything relating to it... you not only buy that widget you came here to buy but while you're at it you add that movie to your cart, some popcorn, and a nice Tin branded with that movies characters all to your cart in less than 3 minutes and very few clicks.     Now imagine being a seller in that world.  A world in which suddently those "star wars" movie collectables from movies 1-8 are boosted and shown in various places in a seemless, non-intrusive manner.    Imagine a world where someone looks at your item and instead of seeing links to that same item on competing websites they see items related to that item either from you or from other sellers.

A Website minded company can't do this... but a retail minded website... well that's a whole other matter.  So while I feel the pain of the TRS reduction (over $3,500 for me) there remains a bigger part of me that wants to gather around the smoking remenants of that STUPID program and break out into singing "Ding dong the witch is dead"!

Yes,  I might have to make a few adjustments in pricing to compensate for that loss before 4th quarter but actually I'm banking on such a sharp increase in sales from promoted listings that I'm filled with hope... not disappointment.

Did you miss that not ALL 3rd party ads are going away, just some of them?  We are thinking that that is where all of the promoted new multi-item listings will go to share in the text 3rd party ads.

Well Danny here is hoping your promoted listings work to offset your 10% TRS+ loss
Glad promoted will work for you, hoping they get it together for some of the rest of the sellers.

AND Promotions are not available to all  Top Rated sellers. Only available for multi-quantity listings.  That leaves out a lot of people who sell unique/one of a kind items like myself selling exclusively used Vinyl Records. I can't promote ANY of my listings, and now eBay is going to charge me more without any benefit to me?

This should have been where the promoted listings appeared on day 1. How much money is ebay getting from the external ads vs. the promoted listing fee? My guess is they will make more through promoted listings of high dollar items than selling offiste ads.
