Seller cancelled my bid right and just said item was mot available at last minute.

Not sure I’m going to buy anymore from EBay. I had a bid and no one else bided on the item. Right before the auction ended the seller cancelled my bid and said the item wasn’t available. Has this happened to others waiting to buy an item? If so why?
