I need help cancelling a purchase. Seller is no longer going to go through with sale

A seller is telling me the item I purchased is now damaged and they will not be selling to me . They asked me to cancel the purchase,. Everytime I request cancellation , i get an automatic bounce back telling me a cancellation will not be accepted.
